Featured in this lot is this Navajo Yei Be Chei "Corn People," rug circa 1940's. The rug shows a beautiful example of Ye Be Chei traditional weaving with an extremely tightly woven weave and high thread count. The border is a border of white black and red geometric patterns, the central scene is one of corn with figural of birds adorned on the stalks of corn. The Yeibichai weavings are highly individual, therefore, different elements may be found in them. Male Yeis have round heads and Female Yeis have square heads. Other elements included may be: gourds, ruffs of spruce around the neck, fox pelts, moccasins, woven garters or sashes, arrows, corn, clouds, stars, and more. The condition of this rug is fantastic with no obvious signs of damage and in good overall condition. The measurements of this rug are 58" x 55".
