The mineral is a shiny black prism of mineral that is extracted using acid to eat a way the material around it and then it is extracted. Neptunite is a rare and striking mineral known for its deep black to reddish-black color, vitreous luster, and association with other rare minerals like benitoite. Located in San Benito County, California, this is the most famous locality for both benitoite and neptunite. The mine is known for producing some of the finest specimens of these minerals, often found together in a matrix of natrolite, another mineral commonly associated with them. The condition of this collection of geological samples is well preserved with some dirt discoloration but otherwise shows a well preserved condition.
