Presented in this lot is an Original Signed Mixed Media Water Colour by Nick Eggenhofer, "Trail Boss". Nick Eggenhofer (1897-1985) was a German-born American painter, illustrator and sculptor of the American West. Eggenhofer was an illustrator of pulp magazines like Western Story Magazine from 1920 to 1950. He also illustrated over 50 Western-themed books. He became known as "the dean of Western illustrators." Eggenhofer became a painter in the late 1950s, and he moved his studio to Cody, Wyoming in 1951. He painted and sculpted the American West, including horses, mules, cowboys and Native Americans. Long before moving to Cody, Eggenhofer's trademark was absolute historical accuracy. He studied the details of western transportation, such as Conestoga wagons and stagecoaches, and produced paintings that were authentic in every detail. Aided by highly detailed models that he made himself, Eggenhofer gained a well founded reputation for knowing as much about these early western vehicles as any student of the era. He was a member of the Cowboy Artists of America and the National Academy of Western Art, and he won the Trustees Gold Medal from the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Olahom City, Oklahoma. His works are held by the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and many important private collections. Professionally framed, This piece is in very fine condition, no marring noted. The double matted gold gilt hardwood frame is in very good overall condition. Visible art measures 8.25"W x 10.25"L, frame is 16.75"W x 20.75"L x 1.75"D
