Featured in this lot we have volume 1 and 2 of North American Indians by George Catlin published in 1851. The two volume set's full title is "Letters and Notes on the Manners, Customs, and Condition of the North American Indians" and containing nearly 400 illustrations made from Catlin's original works. From 1832 to 1839, George Catlin extensively studied 50 Indian tribes, taking careful notes on their behavior, traditions and ways of life. The first volume shows its original fold out map showing America with Native American tribes marked on the map. The books show red hardcovers with glint gold lettering on the spine. The set shows good condition with minor wear due to age. The books measure 6 1/2" wide by 10 1/4" tall and 1 3/4" thick with the second volume measuring 2" thick.
