This is a fantastic beaded and fringe tomahawk or war club drop attributed to the Northern Cheyenne Native American Indians. The piece shows a stiff Indian tanned hide in a typical drop pattern with very large size and completely covered on the front in glass trade seed beads in a traditional geometric pattern in colors of red white heart, greasy yellow, green, chalk white, cobalt, and greasy lilac. At the top is the hide tie strap held with a wound glass bead; at the base is long stiffing Indian hide fringe with slight ocher yellow coloring, which starts with rolled tin jingle cones. The back of the drop shows a dark purple to grey dyed coloring and exposes the cotton trade thread and remnant repairs. The piece appears to be in the styling and manufacture of the 19th Century, but is not confirmed. Measures overall 31"L with tie strap and fringe. The beaded area is 12" x 5.5".
