The lot features a wonderful and unusual pipe stem section construction of solid catlinite pipestone from the Northern Plains Native American Indian region and dating to the 19th Century. The piece would have been a part of a peace pipe and is truly of a large and high-quality craftsmanship. The piece has been expertly carved showing a rolling twist or twisted design having a matching three roll bands on each end. The piece has been drilled entirely through. The piece shows a rich red coloring with the wonderful lighter red or pink speckled coloring accenting throughout. Provenance: From a large Native American weapons and beadwork collection in Great Falls, Montana. The pipe piece measures 6 1/2" tall by 1 1/2" in diameter.
