This is a stone head war club from the Northern Plains Native American Indians of the 19th Century. The piece likely originates from the Sioux or Arapaho Indians. The stone head war club is comprised of a 4-inch-wide stone head skull cracker that is secured into the hard wood haft with a thick wrap of wetted and stretched parfleche Buffalo hide sinew. The haft is adorned with brass trade tacks and a drop of frilly, hand cut, long Indian tanned hide fringe. Overall, the piece measures 22 inches in length with additional fringe. Provenance: From the ex-collection of Dale Harrison out of Ohio.
