The lot features a Northern Sioux geometric beaded awl case from the late 19th Century. The case is comprised of Indian brain-tanned Great American Bison Buffalo hide and has beautifully beaded banded or circular designs on the entire length of the tube. The awl cases were used by Indian women to store in thin, sharpened sewing awls made from Buffalo Bison rib and leg bones. The bottom shows an Indian tanned beaded hide tab at the bottom as well as a beaded flap at the top. The awl case is sinew sewn. From a Cheyenne, Wyoming collection. Measures overall 9-inches in length not counting the beaded tab at the bottom.
