This is an exceedingly rare original first edition leather bound set of two volumes of the book titled Northward Over The "Great Ice" by Robert E. Peary. The book is a first edition from circa 1898 with a very unique special order red leather hard binding. The book tells the narrative of Life and Work along the shores and upon the interior Ice-Cap of Northern Greenland in the years of 1886 and 1891-1897. The book includes maps, diagrams and about eight hundred illustrations in the complete volume one and volume two set. Published by Methuen & Co 36 Essex Street, W.C. London. Hard bound fabric first editions have been valued and sold for $400 to $500 with a unique leather bound gilt lettered edition such as this not being offered for sale. Together in a stack the two books measure 8.5"L x 6 3/8"W x 3 3/8" Thick.
