Featured in this lot is this Nouvelle-Calédonie L'atelier Du Bois Peint sign circa 20th century. Teh sign features a wonderfully and professionally crafted wooden and painted construction that shows a herd of cattle with a floraql painted backdrop with the mother cows wearing bells and two goatws next to them. The sign is marked NC (for Nouvelle-Calédonie or New Caledonia Island). New Caledonia has large herds grazing on the southwestern slopes of the island. Cattle were introduced to the island in the mid-19th century. The majority of the cattle population is found on the main island, Grande-Terre, particularly in the South province. The condition of this French wooden sign is is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this sign is 11" x 31 1/8" x 1". The collective weight of this sign is 6lb 6oz.
