For your consideration is a Nude Torso Bronze Casting by Edward W. Yates, circa 1965-1967, mounted on a solid wood stand. Edward W. Yates (1920-2001) was a professor of art and sculpture at the University of Nevada, Reno starting in 1952. Provenance: the Owen D. Mort, Jr. Collection. Owen David Mort was an American engineer who amassed an impressive collection throughout his worldwide travels. His collection has included art, artifacts and other historical items from which he has donated to museums at the University of Utah and Snite Museum of Art, the University of Notre Dame, including African, Afghan, Indian, Mughal, Persian and Far East Asian art and artifacts. A rich patina is observed throughout the bronze torso. Nude sculptures, a tradition that took root in Ancient Greece, was famously rebirthed during the Renaissance, and continued to be admired in the Modern era - August Rodin famously stated, "The body always expresses the spirit whose envelope it is. And for him who can see, the nude offers the richest meaning." This bronze nude is in very nice condition, no marring noted, stand is solid with a medium dark stain. Piece measures 4.25"W x 10"H x 3.25"D, weight 3lb approx.
