Presented in this lot is this original canvas oil painting "Innocence" after Émile Munier (1840-1895) adapted later as a centerpiece for a Pears' Soap advertising poster. Pears' transparent soap is a British brand of soap first produced and sold in 1807 by Andrew Pears, at a factory just off Oxford Street in London. It was the world's first mass-market translucent soap. From the late 19th century, Pears' soap became famous for its marketing, masterminded by Thomas J. Barratt, sometimes referred to as the father of modern advertising. Between 1891 and 1925, Pears' issued its now-famous annuals, which are highly collectible. From the early 20th century, Pears' was famous for the annual "Miss Pears" competition, in which parents entered their children into the high-profile hunt for a young brand ambassador to be used on packaging and in consumer promotions. Many Miss Pears subsequently entered acting or modelling. Émile Munier, a 19th century European, Victorian and British impressionist artist, is known for portrait, genre, and landscape paintings. His paintings have sold at auction for sums in excess of $150,000! This painting is professionally mounted in a Rococo-style floral gold gilt moulding. Oil painting exhibits craquelure throughout, age tanning and foxing prevalent as well. Frame has visible cracks and splits throughout the moulding, inner dentil cove moulding has two small areas missing. Overall frame condition is solid. Visible art measures 7.5"W x 11.5"L, frame is 13.25"W x 17.25"L x 2.25"D
