Featured in this lot is this oriental Pingfeng folding wooden room divider circa 1930's. This Pingfeng shows a four panel design that shows rounded tops to the piece and shows inlaid decoration that includes mystical figures decorating the scene of a an oriental estate there are four larger figural decorations including the lady of the estate, a duo of mystical shaman, twins sharing a bowl of fruit, a duo of children reading a scroll, and a lady with a fawn shown behind her. The piece shows finely attractive decoration. A folding screen, also known as "Pingfeng", is a type of free-standing furniture consisting of several frames or panels, which are often connected by hinges or by other means. They have practical and decorative uses, and can be made in a variety of designs with different kinds of materials. Folding screens originated from ancient China, eventually spreading to the rest of East Asia, and were popular amongst Europeans. The condition of this Pingfeng is good with some wear to the divider due to scratches and the top middle hinge is missing its pin but otherwise it shows good overall condition. The measurements of this Pingfeng divider is 72" x 61" x 12".
