This lot is an original albumen print cabinet card of Charles Darwin, circa 1880, by Elliott & Fry photographers, a Victorian studio founded in 1863 London, England, which for a century had as the firm's core business, the taking and publishing photographs of the Victorian public and social, artistic, scientific and political luminaries, including former Prime MInister William Gladstone, Poet Laureate during Queen Victoria's reign, poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson, and dramatist, librettist known for his collaboration with composer Arthur Sullivan which produced 14 comic operas. Charles Darwin was an English naturalist, geologist and biologist, best known for his contributions to evolutionary theory. The cabinet card was a style of photograph which was widely used for photographic portraiture after 1870. It consisted of a thin photograph mounted on a card typically measuring 4.25"W x 6.5"L, used during the 1880s.
Card is in good condition with foxing noted mainly on front face, no other marring noted.
