For your consideration is this original General John H. Dickinson saddlebags circa 19th century. John H. Dickinson (1849-1909) was appointed Major General, commanding the entire National Guard of California and also served in the Senate and was one of the principals in the incorporation of Sausalito and was the first President of the town's board of trustees. The bags show Dickinson's mark on the inside of the flap and shows two straps that hold the bags closed. The condition of these bags is fair the bags are in good condition for its age and well preserved but there is a split in the connecting panel separating the bags from each other and some damage tot he straps and handles as well. The measurements of the saddlebags are 14 1/2" x 17" for each of the saddle bags. Provenance: California saddlebags owned by General John H. Dickinson.
