For your consideration is a beautiful and serene Original Signed Cyril Whiteoak Watercolour, 1969, framed. Provenance: the Owen D. Mort, Jr. Collection. Owen David Mort was an American engineer who amassed an impressive collection throughout his worldwide travels. His collection has included art, artifacts and other historical items from which he has donated to museums at the University of Utah and Snite Museum of Art, the University of Notre Dame, including African, Afghan, Indian, Mughal, Persian and Far East Asian art and artifacts. The watercolour features a North African coastal town with an imposing citadel, or Kasbah, perched above the steep rocky outcrop of an arid mountain range. The town rises up from the waterfront with square and rectangularly shaped buildings hugging the slopes of the mountainside. Pedestrians, mostly white-robed men in turbans, cross a stone bridge over a body of water, vendors of an open-air market sit by their wares. Whiteoak was born in England and was artistic from a young age. He served in the British RAF during WW2, spending time in Egypt. Moving to New Zealand in the late 1950s, his art was inspired by the Bush and Manukau Harbour views from his Titirangi home studio. This triple-matted watercolour is in very nice condition, the gold gilt trimmed solid wood frame exhibits very slight scuffing along edges, no other marring observed. Visible art measures 19"W x 26"L, frame is 25.75"W x 34.5"L x 1.25"D, Weight approx 10lb, 4oz.
