For your consideration is an Original Signed Handcarved Wood Hopi Kachina Doll. Hopi kachina dolls, also known as katsina figures, are a sacred part of Hopi culture and tradition. The Hopi were the first indigenous people to create kachina dolls. According to Hopi tradition, the katsinum, or messengers between the spirit world and humans, carve the dolls when they visit villages to sing and dance. Kachina dolls are traditionally carved from cottonwood tree roots. They are embellished with paint, beads, carvings, and other decorations. This kachina has mineral pigment colours of grey, black, white, green, yellow, melon, and turquoise. Very detailed painted symbols on breechclout and wood base. There is animal fur around its forearms/wrists, ankles, and neck. Leather fringe accents on hands, elbows and leggings. Feathers are held in each hand.
