Included in this lot is an Original Signed Watercolour by former Western artist Hilary Hanson, circa 1972. Having lived and studied art at Eastern Montana College under the tutelage of Ben Steele, Hanson also lived in Independence, Oregon and Cody, Wyoming. Her paintings reflect her love for Montana which is known, among other things, for its "ghost towns". The 19th century mining boom town of Bannack Montana had its beginnings in the gold rush of 1862. It has been meticulously preserved, part of Bannack State Park. After gold was discovered there in 1862, the town quickly grew; 60 buildings, structures, mining artifacts, and cemetery. There are churches, a school house, stores, and a Masonic lodge. But there are also sites of the antics of the Hurdy Gurdy Girls, and the hasty justice of the Vigilantes. Reports abound of hauntings and ghost encounters. This beautiful watercolour is framed shadowbox-style, double matted. Scuffing observed to frame edges. Visible art measures 8.25"W x 19.25"L, frame 16.25"W x 27"L x 1.75"D, weight 6lb, 2oz.
