For your consideration is this original painting attributed to Native American Osage / Cherokee artist, Joe Don Brave from the 21st century. The Osage dance is a deeply rooted cultural tradition, with the In-Lon-Schka (or I'n-Lon-Schka) ceremonial dances serving as a cornerstone of community life, honoring tradition, veterans, and culture through song, hand drums and Southern Straight-style dancing. These dances are held annually in three districts in Oklahoma, Grayhorse, Hominy, and Pawhuska, usually taking place in June. This acrylic painting on board shows an Osage / Cherokee member doing the tradition dance, holding a dance stick with an eagle head in his right hand and an eagle feather fan in his left hand. He is wearing a bone pipe bead chest plate and a colorful trade blanket around his waist. He wears colors of blue, light blue, green, light green and red. The painting shows good condition overall with little wear present and no signs of damage is noted. It measures 18 7/8" L x 12" W and weighs 8 ounces.
