Featured in this lot is what is considered the finest completely hand-crafted example of squash blossom currently offered on the public market. The piece is from master silversmith Randy Begay Jr., son to renowned Randy Begay, and features a completely handmade large squash blossom necklace. Every element of this necklace is hand hammered and crafted from a blank piece of sterling silver by the artist, from the blossoms, beads, and pendant to the chain itself. The concho beads are large sterling silver examples hand pressed/hammered with a wonderful Old Pawn pattern of discoidal beads, totaling 46. The silver rope is hand braided and strung to a ring and link, handcrafted chain that ends in a handmade, adjustable, clasp and ring design. The necklace features ten total handcrafted blossoms adorning the necklace as spacers between the discoidal beads. The central pendant features a professionally and beautifully crafted Naga Squash with a double sterling silver bar construction, featuring hand hammered and tooled design set with a wonderful piece of natural turquoise from the Fox Mine (Fox Turquoise). The center stone is profusely decorated with a double, handcrafted, twisted rope border and a beautiful pear shape Fox turquoise cabochon. The Fox turquoise boasts a light and bright blue luster to the coloration and slight inclusions of mineral deposits that are small; the face of the stone is polished. The artist’s hallmark can be seen on the backside of the Naga pendant and features a 'sterling' stamp underneath the hallmark. The condition of this necklace is pristine and beautiful, with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this squash blossom from clasp to clasp are 26 1/2" and the Naga pendant measures 3 1/2" x 2 1/4" x 5/8". The collective weight of this necklace is 184.4 g. This is the best Squash Blossom necklace to come through this auction and is of the best quality available to the public market. Very few Randy Begay Jr. pieces of this size and magnitude are ever offered for sale, with this being one of his best pieces ever created. The necklace carried a gallery price of $20,000.
