For your consideration in this lot is a pair of Otto John Gaul original photographs. These photographs are professionally matted signed and framed. These photographs are labeled on the back as "Melody Guanajunto, Gto" and "Beauties Of The Tehuantepecs". Otto John Gaul signed the matting outside these photographs with his name "Otto John Gaul A.R.P.S." (Associate Of Royal Photography Society).
Otto John Gaul was a photographer from Buffalo, New York. When he was twelve he became interested in photography and during his college years, he did part-time portraiture. During World War I he served as an aerial and topographical photographer abroad. Gaul was most famous for his black and white photographs. Otto John Gaul photographs are seldom seen on the market and are highly sought. The first photograph is of Native American women ready to perform Ballet Folklorico. The second photograph is of a "Folk Band" of men playing in a Mexican "plaza". The photographs measures 9' x 7 1/4" in a frame that measures12 3/4" x 15 3/4". Their are chips to the frames but the photographs and matting show no signs of damage.
