For sale in this lot is a pair of early Shawnee Native American Indian trade pipe tomahawk heads. The heads are accompanied by a note of provenance in the display box which reads "Pair of pipe tomahawks. Used for trade with the Indians. Found in the ruins of old man Johnson's blacksmith shop in Lee County, Virginia, near Kentucky border. I believe they date mid-1800's. Found on the sixth day of April in the year nineteen hundred and twenty while surveying the land" - William Johnson. The tomahawks show fine forged construction, and display a nice warm patina. The tomahawk heads are stored in a rustic display box. The set shows good condition overall. One of the heads is slightly larger than the other, and measures 6 3/4" long, 2" wide at the face of the blade, and 1 1/4" thick at the eye.
