Included in this lot we have a pair of World War I trench art artillery shells. The first of the shells shows the hand hammered image of a US uniformed soldier and a eagle with a flag in its talons. The base of the shell is marked "SN/98 18P 75 Dec". The second piece shows the portrait of a woman on one side and the word "Metz" on the other. The shell shows a grooved column base with tooled patterning on the top. The base of the shell is marked "75 Dec APXCC20 4L17 SD". The pair are in good condition overall with some small fractures in the brass. The shells measure 13 3/4" tall by 3 3/8" in diameter.
