Included in this lot is a pair of signed Patrick Mavros, Hakata Ndoro sterling silver earrings. These earrings feature a swirling design with rectangular dangle. The swirling pattern is called Ndoro. Ndoro are southern Africa’s most striking totems of prestige and beauty. They were originally seashells that had been ground flat into their distinctive whirl shape. The rectangular dangles are called Hakata. Hakata are the throwing bones referred to in stories about Africa. They are still used today in divining by trained and chosen practitioners. The patterns vary only slightly from one end of the continent to the other. The earrings show two different designs on the pendants. The earring that shows sideways triangles represents a young male and the other earring with zig zags represents a wise woman. The combination of the young man and wise woman gives balance. The back of the earrings are marked "Patrick Mavros". The earrings are in good condition, showing some slight wear. The earrings measures 1 3/4" by 1/2".
