For your consideration are two brooches of jewelry art. The first is a vintage 1960's, Janos Percz (Percz Janos), modernist, elongated face brooch that is marked "Percz Janos" on the back. This is in good condition, with small signs of wear on the back. The second piece is a surreal bird brooch, also in good condition. The jewelry is hand-cast in bronze, then silver-plated with added oxidization in areas for contrast. Percz’s sculptures and jewelry have been shown internationally since the 1950s. He's won many awards, and his art is in collections and museums throughout the world. Percz Janos studied at the Hungarian School of Fine Arts (1940–1946). Between 1948-1960, he taught art design at the school of design and at the same time, began to master metal work. In the 1960s, Perz Janos showed himself as a pioneer of Hungarian metal jewelry art—he revised the boundaries of the use of metal structures from the point of view of art, developed it, and changed attitude to sculpture. Medals, brooches, bracelets, necklaces, and plaques, as well as sculptures, have left their mark on the history of Hungarian and world art. They invariably testified to the beauty of the combination, the skill of the performer and the ingenious ideas of the sculptor. Percz Janos works are in the state collections of the Museum of Applied Arts and the Hungarian National Gallery in Budapest. The bird measures 2.25" H x 2" W; the face measures 3.25” L x .75" W.
