Permian Era Laoporus Tracks In Coconino Sandstone

For your consideration are two Coconino sandstone slabs from Arizona with Laoporus & Baropezia footprints from the Permian Era around 250 million years ago. Since body fossils have not been reported in the Coconino Sandstone, invertebrate and vertebrate trace fossils remain the only evidence of the organisms that lived in the Coconino desert. The smoother sandstone slab shows two to three Laoporus foot prints while the rougher sandstone shows two larger, more impacted Baropezia footprints. Names like Baropezia-fontis emerged designating an unknown `heavy-footed (broad-toed) creature from the Fountain Formation’ (Carboniferous of Colorado). Another example is Laoporus (`stone tracks’) from the Coconino Sandstone in the Grand Canyon. Most paleontologists attribute Loaporus to amphibians, many of the features of which resemble the tracks that salamanders, moving in shallow water, produced during experiments. Both slaps show good condition with visible footprints in each. The rougher sandstone slab measures 7" L x 4 5/8" W, while the smoother sandstone slab measures 6 1/4" L x 7 1/4" W.
