The lot features a hide covered haft stone head dance club from the Plains Native American Indians of circa 1890-1920’s. The piece shows a softer stone axe like head with tapering blade having rear with carved incised lines secured to a wood haft handle through the head and with a wrapping of parfleche rawhide which also covers the handle. The hide has a dark red ocher mineral pigment dye and is finished by a small drop of fringe at the end. Provenance: From a historic Eastern Montana American Indian Collection, where the piece was found to be an authentic original, one of the finest collections of American Indian weaponry and antiquities in Montana. Measures 17”L without fringe and head that is 4.5”3.25”x1 3/8”.
