Featured in this lot is this Potawatomi trade cloth trade bead bag circa early to mid 19th century. The bag features a wonderfully and professionally crafted trade cloth with trade seed bead and trade bead decoration with wire wrapped tassels with a bead and cloth core. This bag is housed in a display case. The Potawatomi are a Native American people originally from the Great Lakes region of North America, particularly in what are now Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio. They are part of the larger Algonquian language family and are closely related to the Ojibwe (Chippewa) and Odawa (Ottawa) tribes, together forming the "Council of Three Fires." Following the War of 1812, the Potawatomi faced increasing pressure from American settlers and were forced to cede much of their land through a series of treaties. The condition of this Potawatomi bag is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this bag is 4" x 5 1/2". The display case measures 6 3/4" x 8 3/4". The collective weight of this display case with the bag is 10oz.
