Featured in this lot is the book "PRAIRIE WINGS Pen And Camera Flight Studies, Explanatory Sketches By Richard E. Bishop", by Edgar M. Queeny 1946 published by Ducks Unlimited. Edgar Monsanto Queeny (1897 - 1968) was an American industrialist, chairman of the Monsanto corporation from 1928 until his retirement in 1960. He was also a noted conservationist. In this important work, Queeny documents the motions of ducks wintering over in the pin oak flats of Arkansas - in particular, Nature's most wondrous evolution - the wings of birds' illustrated with the photographs and sketches of Richard E. Bishop. Because of the mechanical and chemical limitations of lens and film, the means of presenting flight photographically is still unequal to the beauty of birds and the easy grace with which flight is performed. Nevertheless, photography is able to detect action that escapes the most intent eye; and by recording positions taken in the slightest instants, we are helped to understand flight and the gravity-defying instruments of flight. Book has brown lettering to front cover and spine with the Ducks Unlimited gilt embossed medallion on the front cover, pictorial endpapers, full color frontispiece with tissue guard, illustrated throughout with black-and-white photographs and drawings. Book is in good condition with limited wear to the cover from normal usage, pages show slight foxing throughout, personal sentiment written on back of frontispiece, measures 12.25"L x 9..25"W x 1.25"D
