For your consideration is this pre-1950s E.D. Bullard hard boiled fiberglass firefighters helmet. The hard hat concept comes from Bullard, a hundred-year-old, family-owned manufacturer of personal protective equipment, specializing in industrial head protection, including hard hats, firefighter head protection and supplied-air respiratory protection. The ‘Hard Boiled® Hat’, patented in 1919, was so called because of the steam used in the manufacturing process. The original ‘Hard Boiled® hat’ was manufactured out of steamed canvas, glue, a leather brim, and black paint. Bullard’s distinctive three-rib, heat resistant fiberglass hard hat was developed in the 1940’s. This helmet comes with a mesh and plastic interior for a comfortable, easy fit. The original leather strap is in good working condition. The helmet also features a clear Plectron face-shield. On the bottom of the brim on the back it reads, "Hard Boiled E. D. Bullard Co. S. F. - U.S.A." and on the top of the back brim there is a number "5" painted in white. The top shows Bullard's iconic three-ribbed construction. Overall the helmet is in good condition with no signs of obvious damage. The helmet is in good working order. It measures 14 1/4" L x 13 1/2" W x 6" H. The inside circumference is approximately 24" but it can be adjusted.
