The lot features a Pre-Columbian Archaic Period stone head axe head from ca 5000 to 3000 BCE. The piece shows a three-quarters-groove axe, carved from a dark and hard stone with thick back and cut groove. The piece is likely from the Plains to Northern Plains region and is of a large size. Provenance: From a historic Eastern Montana American Indian Collection, where the piece was found to be an authentic original, one of the finest collections of American Indian weaponry and antiquities in Montana.
