The lot features a Pre-Columbian Archaic Period stone head axe head from ca 5000 to 3000 BCE. The piece shows a three-quarters-groove axe, carved from a dark and hard stone with thick back and cut groove. The piece is likely from the Plains to Northern Plains region and is of a large size. Provenance: From a historic Eastern Montana American Indian Collection, where the piece was found to be an authentic original, one of the finest collections of American Indian weaponry and antiquities in Montana. Measures 8.5”L by 5”W by 2” thick.
