Featured in this lot is this prehistoric Hopewell butterfly bannerstone circa 200bce - 500ce. The bannerstone shows a stout butterfly shape with sharp shoulders and a rounded baseline, the central section shows a cylindrical opening and overall polished construction. The bannerstone shows a museum tag that reads as follows: DXK. The condition of this butterfly bannerstone is food with no obvious signs of this damage and in good overall condition. The measurements of this bannerstone are 2 3/8" x 4" x 1 1/4". Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery. Identification#: E1073.
