For your consideration is an Antique Primitive Hand-Carved Wood Sheep / Goat Yoke, circa 19th century. Hand-carved from maple or hickory, this went over the neck of the goat or sheep and was held in place by the neck hoop. Unlike an oxen yoke this piece was likely used to keep a sheep or goat from getting through a fence as it impeded their progress. The hand-carved key cross piece rotates to fit into the two key slots, then rotates to lock the yoke into place. The cross piece key is branded "A. St." on both sides as are both sides of the bow. A wonderful piece of rural Americana, this yoke displays rich patina throughout, bow has natural wood expansion cracks on the inside and outside face. No marring noted. Yoke measures 13"W x 15.5"L x 2"D, weight is 14oz.
