For your consideration in this lot is an Ancestral Puebloan Denim Lapis rondell bead necklace with an arrowhead shaped polished Llanite pendant. The necklace is made of Denim Lapis rondell shaped beads strung on a thin wire with a hook and eye clasp. Lapis was used as a gemstone for thousands of years by the ancient Egyptians, and is mined in the Italian Mountain region of western Colorado. Many ancient cultures believed that lapis lazuli contained magical powers. Today, people around the world consider lapis lazuli to be a stone of awareness, able to impart knowledge and wisdom. It is reputed to bring about harmony in relationships and to cleanse the mind bringing about self-acceptance. Denim lapis is the trade name for specimens of lapis lazuli that have a paler blue color due to a high concentration of white calcite with the appearance of faded denim cloth. The center arrowhead shaped polished Llanite pendant is strung on black waxed twine with copper colored beads. Llanite is a type of Rhyolite with inclusions of Feldspar and Blue Quartz. The Blue Quartz is thought to be coloured blue by the presence of Iimenite. It is only found in the Llano Uplift, a geological feature in Llano County, Texas, USA, and is viewed as a stone of compassion, understanding, peace, and harmony. This piece is striking by the flashes of iridescent purple hidden within the soft warm brown of the stone. This pendant necklace is in very nice condition, no marring noted, measures 9.5"L from clasp to pendant closed.
