Featured in this lot is this Quan Yin (Guanyin) carved soapstone sculpture with a marble base, done in the 20th century. Quan Yin, also known as Guanyin or Kuan Yin, is a revered figure in East Asian Buddhism, particularly in China. She is the Bodhisattva of compassion and mercy, often depicted as a female deity. Quan Yin is known for hearing the cries of the world and offering solace and assistance to those in need. This sculpture shows Quan Yin slightly bending over as she holds a large fan in her hand. She is draped in traditional clothing and has her hair in a long pony tail. The marble base shows colors of brown, black and speckles of beige. No makers marks is present. It shows good condition overall with slight wear present from its use, but no major signs of damage is noted. It measures 2 7/8" L x 2 7/8" W x 10" H and weighs 2 pounds and 6 ounces.
