For your consideration is a Rare Late 17th Century William & Mary Walnut Cushion Framed Mirror, circa 1670-1700. The original mirror plate is bordered by fine cross-grain ovolo mouldings and pulvinated frame of veneers of cross-grain sections of walnut bordered by an ovolo cross-grain mould. The soft square ‘Cushion’ shape was popular at the time. Paper backing appears to be original and as such, quite brittle to touch. The William and Mary period was a time in English history from 1689 to 1702, when William III and Mary II ruled as joint monarchs. The style combined Dutch influences (William of Orange) with native British styles and was characterized by elegant curves and opulent lacquers. Framed mirror is in well preserved condition, with natural veneer cracks and moulding separations due to age and humidity fluctuations observed. Measures 17.5"W x 19"L x 2"D, weight is 7lb, 8oz.
