For your consideration is this rare 1949 Shenango "Fezziwigs Serenaders" plate. Shenango China was located in New Castle, Pennsylvania. "Fezziwigs Serenaders" was the first in a series of what became 12 plates made from 1949-1963. Each plate in the series portrayed a scene from Charles Dickens's "A Christmas Carol". Each of the plates has the same coloration, green and black on white with gilt trim around the edge of the plate. On the back of the plates is a description in cursive script. This plate features 5 carolers singing under a gas light suspended on a pole held by one of the carolers. The scene is colored by the outline of an evergreen. The back of the plate reads, "Season's Greetings from Shenango 1949/ "The Fezziwigs' Serenaders" by W.G. Trimble/ First of a Series Depicting Scenes from the Immortal Story "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens." The plate is in excellent condition. It measures 9.75" in diameter. The plate comes with a wire hanger for display purposes.
