Featured in this lot is a Rare and Scarce First Edition of "The Life of Hon. William F. Cody known as Buffalo Bill the Famous Hunter, Scout and Guide, An Autobiography", 1879, Frank E. Bliss publisher, Hartford, CT. The earliest authentic biography of the noted plainsman occupies supreme rank among books of its type. The author tells of his exciting youth in Iowa; removal to Kansas and life there during its most eventful years; overland trips across the plains; Indian encounters; life as a pony express rider; driving a six-in-hand team on the overland stage route; bull whacking; leading a wagon train to the Far West; scouting during the war; hunting and trapping; capture by the Indians; life at Fort Bridger; experiences with Alf Slade, Bob Scott, Wild Bill Hickock and numerous other noted men of the border; Mormon War; Pike’s Peak Gold Rush; fighting the McCandless gang; the Niobrara Expedition; the Sioux Campaign of 1876 and more. 365 pages, steel-engraved frontispiece, numerous wood engravings, some full-page. This original blind-stamped red cloth bound gold gilt cover vignette, spine lettered in gilt. Scuffing and fading exhibited, Intact pages exhibit age tanning and foxing throughout, measures 5.75"W x 8.5"L x 1.25"D.
