For your consideration is a Rare Civil War First Edition of "Four Years In Secessia", Junius Henri Browne 1865, O. D. Case and Company publisher. A graduate of Saint Xavier College, Cincinnati, he became a war correspondent for Horace Greeley's New York Tribune during the Civil War and was taken prisoner near Vicksburg, Mississippi. This is a riveting account of the author's experiences during the American Civil War. Covering a broad spectrum of incidents and facts, the book provides an insightful perspective on life within and beyond Union lines. The narrative is marked by Browne's capture at Vicksburg in 1863, while attempting to run through Rebel batteries, and continues with his subsequent imprisonment in various locations, including Vicksburg, Jackson, Atlanta, Richmond, and Salisbury. Highlighting the grim reality of the Civil War period, the book details Browne's audacious escape and perilous 400-mile journey back to the Union lines in Knoxville. Through his vivid storytelling, Browne offers an unvarnished portrayal of the wars realities, filled with danger, suspense, and human resilience. His unique perspective, shaped by his first-hand experiences, captures the nuances of the Civil War era, making this book an intriguing read for Civil War enthusiasts. The brown cloth bound stamped illustrated gold gilt hardcover is in amazing preserved condition for its 160 years of age, scuffing and fading exhibited on the covers. Original 1865 owner's ink signature featured opposite copyright page. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and foxing throughout. Measures 5.5"W x 8.375"L x 1.5"D, weight is 1lb, 14oz.
