Featured in this lot is this rare, GIA certified, color changing alexandrite, VS2 diamond, platinum ring with GIA and AIG paperwork. This ring shows an opulent example of one electronically tested platinum ladies cast ring with a bright finish and in new condition. The ring displays good workmanship, a yellow gold basket, and the 'Orianne' hallmark and 'PT950' stamp on the inside of the ring band. The ring shows a center stone of prong set oval modified mixed cut natural alexandrite and measures 14.37mm x 11.65mm x 7.52mm with an exact weight of 9.93 carats; the stone has type II clarity and is slightly included with medium dark, very slightly brownish, greenish, and yellow color. This stone transmits light with a minimum amount of distortion and is transparent with naturally occurring internal and external characteristics present. This stone was graded loose prior to setting in the laboratory. Alexandrite was discovered in the 1830's, near the Tokovaya River in the Ural Mountains of Siberian Russia. It later became the national gemstone of Russia. The name "alexandrite" became official in 1842. Alexandrite is a variety of chrysoberyl and contains both beryllium and chromium, which accounts for the spectacular color change and is the primary qualification for being considered Alexandrite. Alexandrite is strongly trichroic; its color change results in a near-equal transmission of the blue-green and red portions of the spectrum, coupled with strong absorption in the yellow. Today, Alexandrite is found in Brazil, India, Madagascar, Myanmar, Russia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. The center stone is profusely decorated with a double layer halo ring featuring 76 prong set round brilliant cut diamonds with an approximate weight of 1.71 carats, a color gradient of D – E, and VS1 to VS2 clarity. GIA (Gemological Institute of America) Sapphire Grading Report#: 1188267144. The piece comes complete with AIG (American International Gemologists, a GIA certified lab AIG Appraisal Number#: 000716013052) report and appraisal, confirming the above info and giving a total value of $70,780.00. The ring size is US 7 1/4.
