For your consideration is a Rare 19th Century James Purdey & Sons Mahogany and Brass bound Gun Case, circa 1878-1881. James Purdey & Sons, or simply Purdey, is a British gunmaker based in London, England specialising in high-end bespoke sporting shotguns and rifles. Purdey holds Royal Warrants of appointment as gun and rifle makers to the British and other European royal families. The fitted interior is lined with green baize bearing paper label, "James Purdey & Sons Gun & Rifle Manufacturers 314 1/2 Oxford Street Near Hanover Square, London" to underside of cover. Above the name is the Royal Warrant Coat of Arms bearing the words, "Dieu et Mon Droit". The printer's name, "Parkins & Gotto" is on the bottom left corner of the label. The top of the cover features two concentric brass circles. The larger circle is a flush-fitting carrying handle. The divided interior features slotted areas for cleaning accessories, vintage barrel cleaning accessories included, leather strap for securing stock and barrel. Original key included. This fine piece of sporting history is in preserved condition, rich patina observed on both the mahogany and the brass, slight damage to the baize, which is to be expected due to the age.
