The lot features a Pre-Columbian figural pottery vessel attributed to the Mayan culture and dating to circa 500 A.D. The pottery vessel shows the figural effigy design of a human male or god and shows the original early red pigment on the exterior. The piece has exquisite detail and is in an uncommon form being that the man is standing. The piece still has the tag from Sundog Gallery museum with a 24m ME #2295, presumable the museum identification number, and a price of $450.00. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. Measures 8 inches high by 5 inches wide by 2.5 inches deep. The piece shows some slight breaks and a repaired arm, but overall a fine example for its early age.
