Included in this lot is a Rare Original "Lerner Shops" desktop / tabletop sign, cast metal, circa 1930s-1950s. Lerner was founded in 1917 as a New York City blouse shop. By 1920, 23 Lerner Blouse Shops were in operation. Within ten years, that figure grew to 160 units in 37 states. With its signature font and prominently-located storefronts, Lerner Shops became a retail staple of America’s downtowns. Lerner spared no expense when it came to store architecture and design. The buildings were often sleek and stylish. This sign reflects the Art Deco style of visual arts, architecture, and product design that flourished in the United States and Europe in the 1920s and 1930s. During its heyday, Art Deco represented luxury, glamour, exuberance, and faith in social and technological progress. This sign is in nice condition, no chips or breakage noted, slight scratches and oxidation. Measures 9"L x 3"H x 1.5"D, weight 1lb, 10oz.
