Featured in this lot is this "Hobbit Anniversary Edition in Slipcase", 1966, J. R. R. Tolkien, publisher Houghton Mifflin Company. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien CBE FRSL was an English writer and philologist. He was the author of the high fantasy works The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. From 1925 to 1945, Tolkien was the Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon and a Fellow of Pembroke College, both at the University of Oxford. This "The Hobbit, or There And Back Again" anniversary edition features the original illustrations and design. This large work has the iconic original dustjacket design, as well as numerous colour illustrations. A rare and highly sought-after edition. This green textured leatherette bound illustrated gold and red gilt hardcover is in very fine condition, near new condition with runes and red highlights on front cover. Intact pages have marbled top, bottom and fore edges. Green slip case is in very nice condition, illustrated title label on cover. Measures in slip case 7"W x 9.5"L x 1.5"D approximately.
