For your consideration is a rare first edition circa 1873 "Wonders of the Yellowstone, Illustrated Library of Travel Exploration and Adventure", edited by James Richardson. This is one of the earliest known Yellowstone Park books. The piece shows seventeen excellent engraving illustrations and published by Scribner, Armstrong and Company 1873. This includes the fold out engraved color hand tinted Map showing the locations of the Yellowstone National Park and its Prospective Railroad Connections with the Eastern States. In 1872, Yellowstone was the first national park created in the U.S. and is also widely held to be the first national park in the world. This book was written 1872 and published one year after the park was created in 1873. This rare book is in amazingly good condition considering its 150 year old. The foldout map in the front is torn at the seams of the folds. A couple of the front pages have slight fraying on the page edges, foxing throughout consistent with age. Maroon cloth bound gold gilt front cover has embossed depiction of a pot hanging over a campfire, a rifle, oar, and pike hanging from tree limbs above. Spine has gold gilt embossed book title, and rear cover is embossed without gold gilt. Slight scuffing to cover edges. No other obvious damage noted. Book is in overall good condition. Measurements are 5"W x 7.5"L x 1"D
