For your consideration is a rare first edition circa 1873 "Wonders of the Yellowstone, Illustrated Library of Travel Exploration and Adventure", edited by James Richardson. This is one of the earliest known Yellowstone Park books. The piece shows seventeen excellent engraving illustrations and published by Scribner, Armstrong and Company 1873. The book is missing the fold out map of Yellowstone Park. In 1872, Yellowstone was the first national park created in the U.S. and is also widely held to be the first national park in the world. This book was written 1872 and published one year after the park was created in 1873. This rare book is in fairly good condition considering its 150 year old. Maroon cloth bound gold gilt front cover has embossed depiction of a pot hanging over a campfire, a rifle, oar, and pike hanging from tree limbs above. Spine has gold gilt embossed book title, and rear cover is embossed without gold gilt. The books front cover is worn from age and use and shows fair condition. The interior pages are in good condition with browning and stains throughout the pages, but the text remains very readable. The book measures 7 1/2" L x 5 1/2" W x 1" D.
