Offered for sale is this very rare and fine set of Hudson Bay White/Yellow Heart “Cornaline d'Aleppo” exotic trade beads, dating to the 16th-17th Century. These 1600-1800’s beads are regularly referred to as “white hearts” due to the opaque white core at the “heart” or center of each bead that is finished with a red semi-translucent outer shell (showing the white partially through). This outstanding strand shows beads with very rare, shiny, semi-transparent outer shell. According to historical data, the brilliant red color of Cornaline d'Aleppo beads was a result of adding gold oxide to pink or violet glass. This necklace is 33" long. There are 70 beads on this necklace. The beads vary in size and shape; some are barrel shaped and some are oblong. The beads measure from 1/2" long 1/4" wide down to 1/4" X 1/4". A few of the beads have very minor damage, as expected given the age of the beads.
