Featured in this lot is this early 1900s, Red Wing Ko-Rec Feeder manufactured by The Red Wing Potteries Incorporated in Red Wing, Minnesota. The feeder has been salt glazed, a type of durable stoneware pottery with a glassy, salt-infused finish, created by throwing salt into a kiln at high temperatures during the firing process. The salt vaporizes, and the sodium reacts with the silica in the clay to form a hard, shiny, and water-resistant glaze. Traditionally used for food preservation before refrigeration, crocks were ideal for items like pickles, salted meats, and sauerkraut. It is marked on the front in blue lettering reading, "Red Wing Ko-Rec Feeder / Patent No. 1,783,780 / Made Only By The Red Wing Potteries, Inc. / Red Wing, - Minn. / Set On A Level". It shows good condition overall with some wear present from its age and use over the years, but no signs of cracks or major damage is noted. It measures 9 7/8" L x 7 1/2" W and weighs 5 pounds and 11 ounces.
