Remington Model 6 .22 Short, Long and Long Rifle “Boys’ Rifle.” Remington’s Model 6 was a modified and scaled down version of the famed rollingblock action rifles. With its lightweight 20” round barrel and takedown configuration, it was intended for and marketed to the youth of the day. By simply turning the screw ahead of the bottom of the receiver, the rifle would easily be taken down for easy carry in a pack, canoe or on a bicycle. Manufactured from 1902-1933, the Model 6 was the dream of many a young boy! Unlike most of the cheaper, imported rifles, the Remington was of very high quality and deserving of the famed Remington name. Like this example, those chambered for the .22 Long Rifle cartridge are especially desirable. Early production rifles sported case hardened receivers with later production being full blue. This rifle with matching serial number 451411 on both barrel and receiver has the earlier style receiver. It is fitted with the correct small buckhorn factory rear sight with small blade front sight. All Remington markings on the receiver and barrel are sharp and clear. The stock and forarm are in fine condition having never been sanded or refinished. Further, the original steel Remington embossed butt plate is intact. The receiver case colors have aged to a lovely mottled patina. Similarly, the barrel blue has naturally aged and is mixing with an uncleaned and attractive natural brown patina. The action is tight with a strong safety half-cock on the hammer. Surprisingly, the bore is in very fine condition with excellent rifling throughout and any roughness extremely minor. Generally, these “Boys’ Rifles” were often lovingly “cherished to death” by their young owners who proudly learned the shooting and hunting skills with them that would last for the rest of their lives. Hence, most show very long and hard usage. Interestingly, here in Montana many of the rural one-room school houses had rifle/shotgun racks in the back of the classroom for the students to store their guns so they could hunt/forage with them on their way home after classes ended each day. Today, it is difficult to find a Remington Model 6 in this fine state of preservation. It truly represents an innocent time in American history when kids were expected to responsibly handle firearms safely from an early age, and help provide table fare for the family. This is a wonderful example from this long past time. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic firearm, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
