Offered in this lot is a fine example of one of America's very first high-powered, semi-automatic, self -loading rifles, a Remington Model 81 Woodmaster, in the desirable .35 Remington caliber. The Model 81 was introduced in 1936 and was offered in .300 Savage, .25 Rem along with the original Mod. 8 .30 and .35 Rem from the model 8. The rifle displays a 21 1/2" long round barrel, which utilizes a "Long Recoil Operated" action, blade/bead front sight, and walnut stock. The frame and barrel show a blue'd finish. The frame is marked across the left side reading "The Woodmaster Trade Mark Model 81 Remington Reg. US. Pat. Off 12420" and "35 REM" on the right. The trigger guard marked "53" and the barrel initialed "EJ". The top of the barrel is marked "Remington Arms Co. Inc. Ilion. N.Y. Made in U.S.A. Browning's Pats. 659.507-659.786-701.288-853.438-984.263". The rifle shows good condition overall with some light wear and pitting across the metal. Serial Number: 12420.
